The Sustainability Fund is to provide future generations of Miriwoong and Gija people with a substantial capital base for when Argyle Diamond Mine ceases operations. Argyle's decision to go underground will significantly extend the life of the mine and the potential size of this fund. Argyle makes contributions to this fund every 6 months based on the company's performance, until cessation of mining operations. The contributions from Argyle (up until Argyle Diamond Mine ceases operation) to the Sustainability Fund can not be utilized at any stage and the capital base is retained for perpetuity. Some of the earnings are used for administration of the Gelganyem Trust and the rest of the earnings are reinvested. After cessation of mining, all the earnings, but not the capital base, can be distributed to the beneficiaries and be used to administer the Gelganyem Trust.
