Renal Health.

Renal Health.

Gelganyem Trust views Renal Health as an urgent priority due to the rising number of Aboriginal people developing kidney disease and the lack of essential health services for this condition in the East Kimberley. Renal health patients from the East Kimberley have no option but to travel away from their country for kidney dialysis treatment. The ongoing separation from family and country causes loneliness, distress and isolation for patients. Gelganyem Trust formed a partnership with Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Council (KAMSC) and OVAHS to invest $220,000 to employ an experienced Renal Health Education Nurse to provide much needed education for kidney disease sufferers, their families and carers, the wider East Kimberley Indigenous population and health service providers.
